Why would I need/want to modify the sales history of an item?
There are a few situations in which you may want to modify the sales history of an item:
- Out-of-stock periods: If an item was out of stock for a period of time this can cause the forecast to be less accurate since the actual demand for the item is not reflected in the number of units shipped. In cases where an item was out of stock for multiple months, the best way to address this is to modify the history for that period of time to reflect what that item would have sold had it been in stock.
- Too little sales history: In order for ForecastRx to accurately forecast an item, we recommend having at least 2 years of sales history. If a particular item has not been on sale for that amount of time, you can utilize backfill or history overrides in order to create a starting point for a forecast until there is more sales history data to work with.
- Sales/Promotions: If you are running a sale or promotion for an item that is not something that will happen annually, it is best to modify the sales history accordingly so the Forecast and purchasing recommendations for the next year will not be overestimated.
How do I modify an item's sales history?
You can access the sales history for an item by navigating to "Items" under "Manage Company" in the navigation panel. Locate the item you are looking for, and then click on the chart icon in the "History" column.
From here, you can click on the sales for any specific month and enter whatever number you wish. Any entries that have been modified will display in yellow instead of blue.
To view the sales history of an item without any of the modifications, simply uncheck the "apply overrides" option above the sales history graph.
